Global climate policy talks get underway

EU to promote debate on future directions for Kyoto protocol at Buenos Aires conference

Global climate experts assembled in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Monday to begin the tenth conference of parties to the UN framework convention on climate change (COP 10). Ministers will hold a high-level section next week. Future greenhouse gas emission targets or equivalent measures will be high on the agenda.

The centrepiece of the meeting will be four ministerial panel discussions. These will focus on impacts of policies to cut greenhouse gases, measures to help countries adapt to climate change, technologies, and on "accomplishments and future challenges" of the convention.
