The EU's integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) directive must be simplified to avoid confusion and double regulation, a UK government advisory group said on Tuesday. The proposal has alarmed the European Commission's environment directorate, which administers the law.
In a report, the UK better regulation task force called for the EU to step up its efforts to simplify legislation to support its Lisbon agenda of making Europe the most most competitive and dynamic world economy by 2010. It made specific recommendations for simplifying the IPPC directive plus legislation on data protection and food labelling.
