Inspectors in new push for simpler green laws

EU network launches better legislation working group, approves 2005 work programme

European industrial pollution inspectors' network Impel is to step up pressure for simpler existing and draft EU environmental legislation. The decision was taken at the network's latest plenary session last week in the Netherlands. Impel's 2005 work programme, adopted at the meeting, continues a strong focus on the EU's transfrontier waste shipments regulation.

Following a better legislation workshop held during the plenary session, Impel agreed to set up a "cluster" to select legislation the network should comment on. It will also identify areas where Impel could provide guidance on implementation of legislation and the consequences of European court of justice judgements. The UK is to coordinate the cluster.
