EU "must renew its sustainability commitment"

Experts call for healing of "implicit division" between Lisbon and Gothenburg strategies

Muddle and division are undermining the EU's efforts to truly integrate the economic, social and environmental pillars of sustainability, according to an academic network of sustainable development experts.

The European panel on sustainable development (EPSD) argues that the EU should make clear that sustainable development is the single, clear basis for its economic development strategy. The panel criticises the recent high-level Kok report for failing to give sustainability "sufficient weight" (EED 04/11/04).
