Commission seeks input to resource use strategy

Two-month consultation launched with appeal for feedback on national resource plans, new EU agency

The European Commission has given further hints on the likely content of a future EU thematic strategy on natural resource use with the launch of a two-month public consultation. Using a questionnaire format this builds on initial proposals tabled by the EU executive in late 2003 (EED 03/10/03).

The questionnaire proposes voluntary national resource management plans, "with an option to discuss legislation... after some years". These government-level agreements could be run in tandem with sector-specific action plans, agreed with the Commission.
