Telefónica goes solar

Spain's telecoms giant, Telefónica, is to cover the roof of its new corporate HQ in Madrid with 16,600 solar panels at a cost of €21.8 million, the largest project of its kind in Europe. The panels, which are to be operated by electricity generator Iberdrola, will have an installed capacity of 3 MW, capable of generating 3.6 GWh/per year. Telefónica estimates the initiative will reduce its CO2 emissions by 1600 tonnes/per year. See Telefónica.
