EU green strategies "embody better regulation"

Commission makes detailed case for strategies' compatibility with more economic growth and jobs

The European Commission has set out in a paper for EU governments how it believes the seven environmental thematic strategies it is preparing respect the bloc's "better regulation" agenda. EU environment ministers will debate the topic when they meet in Brussels on 17 October.

The working paper expands on a theme developed by EU environment commissioner Stavros Dimas since this summer's shock rejection of the European draft constitution. Through careful and structured preparation the strategies already epitomise better regulation themes, it argues (EED 13/06/05).
