Environmentalists warn against policy reversals as expectations grow of an SPD and CDU/CSU grand coalition

As expectations grow that the social democrat (SPD) and conservative (CDU/CSU) parties will form Germany's next government, environmentalists are urging no let up in environmental policy making. A grand coalition between the two major parties is now widely expected after earlier confusion (EED 23/09/05).

On Wednesday, the government's official panel of environmental experts (SRU) put the spotlight on climate change policy. If more is not done to combat global warming Germany will miss out on economic gains, it said.
