Norway copies EU drive for transport biofuels

The Norwegian government is to set targets for the proportion of biofuels used in transport of 2% and 4% by the end of 2007 and 2010 respectively. Noting that the transport sector produces one quarter of Norway's greenhouse gas emissions, the environment and transport ministries said on Tuesday that using biofuels would be a "simple and practicable" step in the Kyoto process. A government forum will work with industry to promote biofuel development and consumption. EU countries have non-binding targets to achieve a 5.75% biofuels share by 2010 (EED 21/05/03).
