European Commission vice-president Margot Wallström has slammed her environment and industry colleagues for accepting a drastic dilution of the Reach chemical policy, European Voice newspaper reported on Thursday. In a leaked letter to Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso, Ms Wallström - who oversaw the initial drafting of Reach - criticises a "room paper" circulated last month (EED 26/09/05). "I cannot see any good reason why the Commission should be lowering its stance and ambition by positioning itself below the compromise on offer by the UK presidency," she complains.
