Europe urged to switch to efficient lighting

Philips launches awareness campaign aimed at speeding up the shift to low-CO2 technologies

Dutch-based electronics multinational Philips has called for more partnership between politicians, business and financial institutions to hasten the shift to more energy efficient lighting systems in Europe. The firm launched an awareness campaign in Brussels on Wednesday.

Philips calculates that upgrading all energy inefficient lighting in Europe to the latest models would reduce running costs by €4.3bn per year and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 28m tonnes per year. As a leading manufacturer of energy efficient lighting technologies the company has a large direct interest.
