Next EU vehicle emission limits spark divisions

Car firms call draft euro 5 standards "impractical", NGOs demand even stricter emission limits

Stakeholder opinions are divided on draft European Commission proposals for stricter euro 5 emission limits for passenger cars and light duty vehicles. The commission has released on its website responses to a consultation it launched in July (EED 18/07/05).

European car manufacturers association Acea argues that the proposed limits are "impractical" and "unjustified" while green groups calls for even stricter limits, including a 75% reduction of NOx and HC emissions from petrol cars instead of the proposed 25% cut against current euro 4 limits.
