Mediterranean states "failing on green laws"

European environment agency highlights poor environmental state, lack of political will, in regional review

Mediterranean countries lack the political will to enforce environmental laws, the European environment agency has complained. It launched the report on Tuesday to coincide with a meeting of the 1976 Barcelona convention on the Mediterranean marine environment.

Governments around the region have still not enforced a revised version of the convention adopted ten years ago, the EEA states, despite the fact that it is the main policy instrument for protecting the Mediterranean environment.
