EU governments should reach a political agreement on the Reach regulation at a special competitiveness ministers' meeting on 19 December, it has emerged. The current UK presidency of the council tabled the meeting after acceding to a request by Germany to postpone a planned agreement later this month.
The competitiveness council of ministers meeting on 28-29 November will still debate Reach. In particular, the session should give a first clear signal of how governments view the European parliament's position adopted on 17 November. The UK remains "determined" to draw the debate to a conclusion before it hands over the presidency to Austria at the end of the year, an official told ENDS Europe DAILY.
