Parliament's internal market committee votes through hotly disputed liberalisation measure

The European parliament's internal market committee backed liberalisation of the EU market in services on Tuesday, rekindling life in a controversial directive that some critics argue will undermine environmental standards.

Parliament's socialist rapporteur on the legislation proposed a raft of changes to the European commission's proposal, many aimed at preventing any undercutting of social, labour or environmental standards (EED 19/04/05).
