Environment ministers to agree new EU Life fund

Air quality, aviation, chemicals on the table, but green project funding scheme the sole political agreement

The UK will bring its presidency of the EU's environment council to a close at a ministerial session on Friday. An unusually light agenda includes discussions on a wide range of topics but only one item for legislative agreement.

* Ministers will reach a partial political agreement on the Life+ environmental funding programme for 2007-13, based on a text circulated last week (see link below). The deal will set out rules for drawing funds from the programme. It will not set a budget, which will instead be decided by heads of government as part of wider budget negotiations.
