Standardisation and the environment have been in the Brussels spotlight at conferences to discuss increasing use of standards in policy making and greening the standardisation process. The discussions will feed into a formal review of the EU's "new approach" next summer.
The meetings come as the EU marks the 20th anniversary of the new approach, under which standards and technical harmonisation are used to achieve policy aims. Momentum has been boosted by the EU's better regulation initiative, under which standardisation is seen as a route to simpler legislation.
