A revised EU sustainable development strategy due from the European Commission by the end of the year could include a first-ever action plan on sustainable consumption and production, it has emerged.
On Wednesday, Commission official Timo Makela said the strategy could use sustainable consumption and production (SCP) as a framework to organise several existing and planned EU initiatives. These include integrated product policy and the forthcoming thematic strategy on natural resources, now due to be published on 23 November.
