UK confident of EU Reach deal next week

Presidency, commission, industry and NGOs debate EU chemical policy at ENDS Europe DAILY conference

The UK as current presidency of the EU remains confident of sealing a first-reading political agreement on the Reach chemical policy reform next week, British minister Willy Bach said on Monday. "We're not quite there yet, but we believe we are close to a deal," Lord Bach told a Brussels conference on Reach organised by ENDS Europe DAILY.

Apart from the authorisation stage of Reach, where member states hold widely different positions, the rest of the text is "pretty close" to the version backed by the European parliament last month. "The fact there's a good deal of similarity demonstrates we've got the balance right," Lord Bach said.
