Packaging chain challenges EEA over prevention

Europen calls on EU institutions to ignore "flawed" European environment agency evaluation

The European environment agency has been accused of botching a recent evaluation of the EU packaging waste directive. Industry association Europen called an agency study so flawed that it should not be used as a reference for future EU packaging policies.

The packaging study was one of the agency's first forays into ex-post analysis of policy effectiveness - assessing experience with environmental directives to see how things turned out. If Europen's criticisms are substantiated it would be a setback for EEA efforts to expand its role towards the policy arena.
