New global energy body "must replace IEA"

New agency must include "poorest and newly industrialised countries", argues ex- German environment minister

Germany’s former environment minister, Jürgen Trittin, has called on his country’s government to push for the creation of a new global energy agency during its upcoming G8 presidency (EED 19/10/06).

Opening a European Green group conference on EU energy policy in Brussels on Wednesday evening, Mr Trittin dismissed the Paris-based International energy agency (IEA) as an OECD club that "excludes the poorest and newly industrialised countries".
