Trade unions strengthen green commitment

Global federation makes environment a top priority; European body calls for 75% greenhouse gas cuts

A new global federation of trade unions has made environmental issues a key priority in a resolution adopted last week.  The resolution also gives unions a mandate to collaborate with UN agencies on green issues.  Meanwhile, European unions body ETUC has called for a binding EU target to cut greenhouse gas emissions 75% by 2050.  Tackling climate change will bring job opportunities, ETUC said.  It also called for a tripartite dialogue to address negative social effects of restructurings linked to emission reduction efforts.  See press release, resolution and ETUC statement.
