Recyclers warn against by-products definition

Proposals to include definition in revised EU waste law "will simply create loopholes and legal uncertainty"

Attempts by MEPs to inject a first ever EU legal definition of by-products into the ongoing revision of waste legislation could end up being counter-productive, recyclers have warned.

Several members of the European parliament’s environment committee have proposed introducing a definition. A material classed as a by-product would – by definition – not be a waste. A definition would facilitate greater reuse and recycling of by-products, they argue.
