Industry pleads for flexible EU waste hierarchy

Business launches last-ditch effort to avoid rigid rules in the run-up to critical parliamentary vote

A large industry coalition has urged the European parliament’s environment committee to back flexibility in the EU’s waste hierarchy two weeks before its first reading vote on revising waste legislation.  The plea reflects deep unease in business over the hierarchy.

Most amendments submitted on the issue by MEPs call for a five-step hierarchy to replace the three-step approach proposed by the European commission (EED 11/10/06).
