The European commission has decided not to appeal against a World trade organisation ruling in September that its blockade on marketing of new genetically modified organisms (GMOs) violated trade rules (EED 29/09/06). Environmental groups condemned the decision as setting "a dangerous precedent for future environmental disputes". Commission officials confirmed a Reuters report on Tuesday that the case was being dropped. An appeal is not merited because the WTO ruling was retroactive, one told ENDS.
