EU strikes Inspire database deal

Council and parliament reach agreement on rules for EU-wide spatial information sharing

The European parliament and governments have finalised legislation to create an EU-wide information infrastructure to share spatial data for use in environment, transport and energy policy-making (EED 26/07/04).  Representatives met in a conciliation committee on Tuesday night to resolve outstanding disagreements.  The parliament said it had won a guarantee that the law will not undermine EU implementation of the UN-brokered Århus green democracy convention, and a reduction in charges to be levied for access to Inspire information.  See press releases from EU council of ministers and European parliament and European commission.
