Doctors and scientists urge greener Reach

Medical professionals and researchers says chemical policy reform needs further strengthening

European doctors have urged EU policymakers to agree strong rules on substituting dangerous chemicals as they enter final negotiations on the Reach regulation.  "Commitment to competitiveness equals also a commitment to improving the health of citizens and patients," the standing committee of European doctors (CPME) says in an open letter.  In a separate statement, a group of endocrine scientists convened by the Finnish EU presidency is urging tighter rules for chemicals that are suspected of disrupting hormonal systems.  See CPME Reach letter and Endocrine scientists’ statement.
