States condemned for breaching EU green laws

Luxembourg wins but then loses water law case; Italy chastised over sewage, Finland over wolves

In three judgements delivered on 30 November the European court of justice has condemned Luxembourg, Italy and Finland for breaching the water framework directive of 2000, the urban wastewater treatment directive of 1991 and the habitats directive of 1992 respectively.

* The court condemned Luxembourg for failing to fully reflect the water framework directive in its national law in a strange case that began as a battle on one issue and ended up focusing on another.
