UK "should warm to waste burning"

EU energy crisis makes it "madness" to pass up the chance to use waste as fuel, says leading MEP

British MEP Caroline Jackson has called on UK local authorities to embrace waste incineration with energy recovery alongside recycling to help divert waste from landfills.  British politicians "lack courage" and have "allowed green fundamentalists to demonise incineration and spread misinformation", she writes in a new pamphlet.  Ms Jackson is currently the European parliament’s draftsman on proposals to revise EU waste law, a controversial element of which concerns waste incinerators (EED 28/11/06).  See Caroline Jackson website and the pamphlet.
