By 2050 the "overwhelming proportion" of EU energy needs should be met by carbon-free sources, the European parliament said on Thursday.
Strategies to reach this goal should "focus on" energy saving, efficiency and renewable energies, MEPs said in a non-legislative resolution on the European commission’s plans for an EU energy policy. But they also left room for the development of carbon sequestration and nuclear generation.
