MEPs urge "overwhelming" clean energy switch

EU energy strategy should "focus on energy saving, efficiency and renewables" says parliamentary resolution

By 2050 the "overwhelming proportion" of EU energy needs should be met by carbon-free sources, the European parliament said on Thursday.

Strategies to reach this goal should "focus on" energy saving, efficiency and renewable energies, MEPs said in a non-legislative resolution on the European commission’s plans for an EU energy policy. But they also left room for the development of carbon sequestration and nuclear generation.
