UK consults on EU waste shipment rules

Environment ministry announces plan to relax blanket ban on shipments for disposal

The UK government has launched a consultation on new national rules implementing the revised EU regulation on shipments of waste.  The changes aim to improve the prevention and detection of illegal shipments and to reduce the administrative burden on business.  They also aim to relax a general ban on shipments of waste for disposal into and out of the UK.  The consultation will run until March, with the new rules scheduled to apply from 12 July, when the EU regulation enters force.  See UK environment ministry press release and consultation.
