EnBW seeks extended reactor life

German environmental groups have strongly criticised a request by power firm EnBW to operate the older of two nuclear reactors at its Neckerwestheim power station beyond 2009, when it is scheduled to close under Germany’s nuclear phase-out.  The firm said an extension to 2017 was "crucial" to German climate protection efforts.  EnBW is the second power firm to request such an extension (EED 27/09/06).  See press releases from EnBW, German environment ministry, and NGO Nabu.
