Dispute over report to parliament’s environment committee puts spotlight on role of lobbyists

Political tensions over the role of lobbyists in EU policy making have returned to the surface in a row over a report on advanced medical therapies for the European parliament’s environment committee.

Environmental group Friends of the Earth attacked the report’s author, David Earnshaw, last Thursday, accusing him of a conflict of interest. Mr Earnshaw is managing director of leading Brussels-based government relations firm Burson Marsteller, which represents several pharmaceutical firms.
