NGO demands green makeover for CAP

Common agricultural policy "must evolve into sustainable land management policy", says BirdLife International

The EU's common agricultural policy (CAP) must be radically overhauled and used to reward farmers for delivering environmental benefits, according to a new report by wildlife campaigners BirdLife International.

The report sets out the group's vision for the future of the CAP. The European commission is set to review the policy in a "health check" scheduled for next year. The CAP's €40bn annual budget will also be assessed next year as part of a review of the overall EU budget.
