Draft new cement sector pollution guidance issued

Commission begins first bref revision under IPPC law, but decision on BAT levels will come later

The European commission has issued the first proposals to revise one of a series of landmark EU pollution control reference documents. The plans concern the cement and lime industry but the draft revision does not yet propose fresh recommended emission levels for the sector.

The document is one of 32 setting out the "best available techniques" (BAT) for controlling emissions in hundreds of industrial processes over several sectors. They have been developed through a stakeholder process over several years under the 1996 integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) directive (EED 06/02/07).
