Experts debating the future of Europe say EU must maintain leadership in environmental policy and eco-industries

The EU must maintain its leadership in environment policy and eco-industries to ensure its future success, according to senior political and industry figures debating the future of the bloc in Brussels on Thursday.

At a high level debate organised by think-tank Friends of Europe, Joachim Bitterlich, vice president of waste management firm Veolia Environment, said Europe's environment and energy policies offered the best hope of boosting the future EU economy.
