Germany submits EU energy efficiency plan

Economics ministry draws on national climate and energy strategy for mandatory plan

The German economics ministry issued a national energy efficiency action plan last Friday as required by a 2006 EU directive on energy end-use efficiency. The plan lists several efficiency measures first announced in a national climate and energy strategy over the summer (EED 27/08/07). There is a strong focus on buildings, with a goal to increase buildings efficiency by 30 per cent in 2008 and by the same amount again by 2012.
