Tensions emerge in Germany over green dot system

Industry and environment ministers at odds over future of packaging recycling system

German industry and environment ministers have clashed over the future of the country's pioneering green dot packaging recycling system.

According to German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), industry minister Michael Glos wants an impending review of the scheme to consider scrapping it altogether. The FAZ reported on Monday that Mr Glos had asked whether the "billions" of euros used to maintain the separate collection of packaging waste "could not be better spent".
