Piebalgs reveals support for renewables trading

Energy commissioner wants coexistence of feed-in tariffs and green certificate trading in EU renewables directive

EU energy commissioner Andris Piebalgs has given the firmest indication yet that he supports the creation of an EU trading system for green certificates as part of a planned new legislative framework for promoting renewable energy (EED 10/09/07).

Europe's renewables sector is dead set against the idea and has warned that it could undermine existing national support schemes based on feed-in tariffs (EED 11/10/07).
