Industry warns Europe not to adopt top-runner approach to improving product energy efficiency

Discussions over whether to apply a Japanese-style "top-runner" approach to product energy efficiency are back on the EU agenda, ENDS has learned.

The European commission's environment directorate is considering the approach for a forthcoming action plan on sustainable production and consumption, while its enterprise department is toying with the idea for a planned policy paper on greener industrial policy (EED 01/08/07).
