New Green environment minister says Ireland must move from incineration to biological treatment

Ireland's new environment minister has proposed a radical shift away from incineration towards mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) as the basis of national waste management policy. A major review of Irish waste management will begin early next year, he announced.

"Previous policy and its over-reliance on incineration is not working," Green party member John Gormley, who took over at the ministry following a general election in May, said at a conference in Dublin last week.
