EU chemical label change prompts law revisions

Commission proposes amendments to seven EU laws in preparation for introduction of GHS

The European commission has proposed minor amendments to several items of EU environmental legislation to take into account a future overhaul of chemical classification and labelling rules.

The overhaul will introduce into EU legislation the UN-developed globally harmonised system (GHS) for classifying and labelling the hazard level of chemicals. It is being done in parallel to the introduction of the Reach chemical risk management policy. The commission tabled its GHS proposals in the summer (EED 25/06/07).
