EU's progress towards sustainability "modest"

Report shows significant developments on the policy front but few concrete results on the ground

The EU has made only "modest" progress towards sustainability since revising its sustainable development strategy (SDS) last year, the European commission says in a new progress report to be discussed by EU environment ministers on Monday.

The commission says there have been significant policy developments in some of the seven areas identified as key action priorities in the revised SDS (EED 14/06/06). These include climate and energy.  But progress on policy has not yet translated into concrete action.
