Climate and energy fill commission's 2008 agenda

Work programme sets out plans to achieve "step change" in energy technologies; other green initiatives outlined

Climate and energy policy will rise even further up the EU's agenda in 2008, according to the European commission's work programme for next year. The programme was published this week and lists the EU executive's plans to table draft legislation and important policy documents. Many have already been announced separately.

Prominent among the commission's intended actions will be a series of initiatives on energy, brought together under the second EU strategic energy review, which will act as a basis for decisions by heads of state in early 2009.
