EU council close to full adoption of Erika law

Ministers adopt two more legislative proposals as part of EU maritime safety package; pass freight transport resolution

The EU council of ministers has moved one step closer to completing its first reading adoption of a proposed legislative package on maritime safety known as Erika III (EED 08/06/07). Last Friday transport ministers adopted positions on two of Erika's seven proposals: ship inspections and accidents involving passenger ships. Two other proposals have yet to be adopted. The European parliament's second reading will then begin. Ministers also adopted a resolution on an EU plan to modernise freight transport infrastructure (EED 18/10/07). See council press release.
