The EU has updated the notification rules applicable to exports of green (non-hazardous) waste sent by EU member states for recovery in non-OECD countries. The rules were updated on Tuesday in light of new responses from some 20 non-OECD countries, including China, India and Russia, to a European commission questionnaire asking which waste streams they would consent to receive from the EU. In the absence of a response from a particular country, every waste shipment to that country is subject to a prior informed consent procedure under EU law (EED 11/07/07). See new regulation.
