MEP pans EU performance on green action plan

Priorities of sixth environmental action programme "unlikely to be achieved by 2012", says parliament's rapporteur

Key objectives in the EU's sixth environmental action programme (6EAP) look unlikely to be met by their 2012 deadline, according to the MEP leading the European parliament's response to a mid-term review of the plan.

In a draft resolution to be debated by the parliament's environment committee on Wednesday, Finnish socialist MEP Riitta Myller says several priority 6EAP objectives are either "very behind schedule or extremely behind schedule".  Ms Myller bases her criticism on a progress report compiled for the parliament, which she says challenges a mid-term assessment published by the European commission.
