Consultancy report for European commission says government worries of legal avalanche "unfounded"

European governments need not fear draft EU legislation guaranteeing wider access to justice for citizens in environment policy issues, according to a consultancy report for the European commission.

Four years ago the commission proposed a directive to implement the access to justice pillar of the UN's Aarhus convention on public involvement in environmental decision-making (EED 28/10/03). But the plan ground to a halt after governments showed no appetite to adopt the legislation (EED 28/09/06).
