Ministers to debate fuel quality plans next week

EU environment council agenda includes life-cycle carbon cuts, resolutions on Bali climate talks and droughts

A public debate on ambitious proposals to cut life-cycle carbon emissions from transport fuels is expected to reveal continuing disagreement among EU ministers at the next quarterly environment council meeting, in Luxembourg on Tuesday.

The latest compromise plan tabled by the Portuguese EU presidency revealed that several governments still have "serious doubts" about European commission plans to force greenhouse gas emission cuts from fuels by 10 per cent from 2010-20 (EED 05/10/07). Last month, MEPs backed the idea (EED 14/09/07).
