Institutions seek rapid deal on chemical exports

Parliament and council nearing accord on Rotterdam convention implementation but key sticking point remains

MEPs and governments could be close to finalising new EU rules on the import and export of dangerous chemicals, ENDS has learned. The rules would revise EU legislation implementing the UN's Rotterdam convention on prior informed consent (PIC).

In informal discussions with the European parliament the Portuguese EU presidency has said it could accept most changes to draft legislation approved by the assembly's environment committee earlier this month. The legislation was tabled by the European commission earlier this year.
